I invite you to take a part in the essential discussion about the purpose of this site. It has been put in place to provide a forum to enhance the work of HSR's (Health and Safety Representatives). The reason behind the purpose discussion is to allow contributions by those who have an interest in this site to contribute to the purpose statements. By inviting these inputs we hope to develop a sense of ownership and to capture the ideas that will lead to this site being a useful and relevant tool for the advancement of Health and safety, particularly as it pertains to HSR's for whom this site is primarily intended to be a resource for.

As moderator I have proposed a draft purpose on the front page of the site which serves as a starting point for the discussion. I intend to allow as much input to the discussion as is needed to get agreement from all registered contributors for our purpose statements. While this discussion may take some time to complete, the work of the discussion groups that eminates from the forum will continue and any new topics that come up will only serve to develop the dialogue on the purpose.

The first priority has been to initiate the connections to enable HSR's from the offshore area of the Oil and Gas Industry to continue the processes started at the HSR Forum, see http://www.2007safetyconference.com.au/, to enable discussions and dialogue around the issues that confront this group. We do recognise however the potential for valuable input from other sectors of our industry and indeed from health professionals generally to enhance the work that HSR's do.

So the darft purpose for this site is,

"The purpose of this online community is to foster and encourage participation in the open discussion of Health and Safety issues in the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry."
